Historical Facility & Contribution to Society
Built in 1914, the temple was once the second meeting place of Parnassus No 388, the first Sunset District lodge.
Guided by a sacred mission to share the wisdom of Tao, Senior Master Chang and several devoted predecessors journeyed from Taiwan to establish this temple in 1995. Their dedication laid the foundation for the growth of I-Kuan Tao in America, and the I-Kuan Tao Foundation of America was officially registered that same year.
Honoring these efforts and the Foundation's positive impact on spiritual cultivation, cultural understanding, and community harmony, former San Francisco Mayor Frank M. Jordan proclaimed June 18 as “I-Kuan Tao Day,” commemorating this meaningful contribution to society.
